The Gujarat Auxiliary of the Bible Society of India came into being in
1969. Till then the Bible Society operations in Gujarat were overseen
by the Bombay Auxiliary. With headquarters located in Ahmedabad a purpose
built Bible House was dedicated in 1980. Apart from this, the Auxiliary
also maintains centres at Baroda and Vyara to cater to the Scripture needs
of this vast State. Harnessing the potential of women in the ministry of God’s Word,
the Women’s Work Council was formed in 1977. This was followed in
1994 by the formation of Youth Work Council. In order to sustain the interest
in Bible cause, innovative programmes like Gujarat Bible Promotion Fund
(1993) were started with a view to providing Bibles to seekers who were
not in a position to afford Bibles at full price. In consonance with the
need for Scriptures to move into Audio medium, a series of Audio Cassettes
were released during 1997-1999 in Gujarati, Gamit and Vasavi languages.
The Gujarat Bible Centre at Vyara came into being in late 1999 in recognition
of the notable Church growth in South Gujarat. This was a commemorative
event for the new millennium. |
